Running 4 Carol

My sweet friend, Carol Decker had her baby, Safiya the same day I had Jackson. Unfortunately the conditions of her delivery and life since have been anything but ideal. Carol had an emergency c-section due to a sudden drop in blood pressure. Safiya was born a month and a half early and in the NICU until her due date. Now she is home and doing great. Carol has been faced with hurdle after hurdle beginning with strep pneumonia and resulting in the amputation of both her feet, her left hand and right ring finger, numerous major skin grafting surgeries all over her body and not yet regaining her eye sight. We are still praying she will not lose her vision also. Please join us in praying for Carol and her family.

Over the last couple of weeks my friend Lori has been organizing and turning a marathon she is running into a fundraiser to help raise money for the Decker's ongoing hospital bills and household management. To learn more about the marathon or how to donate please visit

The surgeries are (hopefully) over and now focusing on recovery and physical therapy. There has been no time line given for Carol's return home to join her husband and two daughters Chloe (2) and Safiya (3 months). The family has a long road of recovery ahead of them.

oh wow, em. i just started reading their blog and have been praying for them ever since. the strength of each of them is truly amazing & inspiring. sometimes i get stuck on the little, mundane things going on that really don't matter in the end. thanks for making me aware of what is most important in life.

Evan's mom is their children's nanny, so I usually get the updates on Carol through her or their blog. I didn't know about this fundraiser, though! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully she'll be able to recover well after her bout with DIC and MRSA! It definitely reminds me that life is short and we need to appreciate the small moments and gifts we're given.

I don't even know what to say except that I wish I was rich so I could really help her and her sweet little family, and that I will pray for her. That is great that your friend is putting together this fundraiser.

That's about the scariest labor & delivery story I've ever heard. I'm with the Thompsons in that I wish I was rich and could help in that way. We'll certainly be praying for them.
