Halloween 2011

Every Halloween I have grand plans of doing something fun for dinner, decorations, and treats. And every year I feel caught up in a whirlwind of chaos and never make it very far. This year was no exception. I had a fabulous idea to dress the family as the cast of Phineas and Ferb. It started off as a joke, but the more I thought about it the more excited I got. But that is as far as I got... I thought about it.

So we retreated to the good ol' costume box. Sam had been a ninja the previous Saturday, but sometime in the last two days, his costume disappeared. So we frantically scrounged through the dress up clothes and mustered up this cowboy costume. Pretty darn cute if you consider the five minutes it took to put it together. Unfortunately, Grandpa Roger's chaps and bolster started falling apart as we left to knock doors. Poor Sam was held together by so many safety pins and eventually the straps were just stuck in his jeans. Totally helped with his "I just got off my horse" walk.

Sam got the hang of trick or treating and was running from house to house.

Jackson was ready to go home and eat his candy after a few houses.

Max was somewhere in between. He enjoyed knocking on the doors, which usually resulted in him falling into the house, because he was leaning on the door. He was trying really hard to say Trick or Treat, at least we could understand him. He would get a new candy and be so focused on trying to open it himself until we got to the next door and then we would repeat the process all over again.

Once they got home they had a blast checking out their loot, trading candies and of course eating as much as they could until mom came and ruined the fun. Originally the plan was to let them pick out ten favorites and we would get rid of the rest. But three pairs of big puppy dog eyes and Brandon's question, "You aren't really going to take that all away from them? Are you?" Resulted in a change of heart. We now have a community bowl, but it is out of reach for little hands. So there is still some control in our house.
